About Us

Our Story

New Life Community Church was birthed from Pastor Darnell C. Hammock's deep concern for Oakland's high homicide rates, which stirred his spirit while serving at Pearly Grove Baptist Church in Fresno, CA. Inspired by Nehemiah's story of rebuilding Jerusalem's walls, Pastor Hammock felt called to return to Oakland to rebuild the walls of love, justice, equality, and hope. In 2011, he and his family moved to Oakland, supported by their pastor, Bishop Charles L. Dickerson. Pastor Hammock worked as a Federal Probation Officer while engaging in prayer, planning, and preparation for launching New Life Community Church.

The church officially launched on January 6, 2013, with a mission to impact the world by loving God and people. Since its inception, New Life has established various thriving ministries and has become a diverse spiritual family. The church emphasizes prayer, mental health, and social justice, while maintaining a Christ-centered foundation. Recognized for its positive community impact, January 30th was proclaimed "I.M.P.A.C.T Day" in Oakland. New Life continues to support families in need and serve the unhoused, led by Pastor Hammock and Lady Jenn, who are dedicated to enriching the city of Oakland and exemplifying God’s grace.
